Thank you for your review, and we’re so glad to hear you enjoyed inspiring campers and connecting with your teammates. We would love to hear more from you regarding communication between Camp Directors and staff, as our hope is to always provide as much support to our camp staff as possible (which, in our book, includes thorough communication). Please feel free to contact us at outreach@galileo-learning.com. As for compensation, we do in fact pay all staff at least an hourly minimum wage in all regions our camps are located, and our payment structure is competitive with similar day camp providers. All staff also receive overtime compensation for any hours worked beyond 40/week. Additionally, staff get the opportunity to receive our robust professional development rewards and access to a vast network of like-minded mission-driven individuals. It’s true that camp days can be long, and we find that staff who are most successful at camp are those with energy and stamina bolstered by an investment in the impactful work we do.

I love the Innovator's Mindsets and the idea that mistakes are to be embraced as they are a way to learn and improve. The projects the campers work are amazing.

Cons

Long hours and low pay. The job felt very tedious and demanding at times, however I wasn't able to appropriately use my skill sets, so I was often bored or frustrated. I also don't like that the surveys aren't anonymous. It makes it a little hard to candidly share feedback (they're all about feedback) when everything you share is going to directly to your camp director with a name attached.

Thank you for your review, as well as your kind words regarding our pedagogy and curriculum. We are certainly very proud of the caliber of our camp program. Camp days can definitely be long and will always require stamina, which is why our compensation is competitive with other summer camps and includes overtime rates for hours in excess of 40 per week. Beyond that, a summer with Galileo can provide professional development rewards, though we are sad to hear that this wasn’t your experience. We strive to foster an environment of open dialogue and encourage summer staff to share critical feedback about their experience as timely as possible — first with their Camp Director, then with their Area Director, and so on. We also appreciate your feedback on our end-of-camp surveys and job descriptions, and we will be sure to take them into consideration as we review for the next year.
