Pros

Pay is decent when coupled with quarterly bonus structure (if they ever pay it out) and mileage reimbursement. Ability to WFH and make your own schedule; no formal office environment to go to

Cons

A fancy title of Nurse Consultant is usually posted for this role and you work alone with very little interaction with teammates, which I don’t mind, but it’s not for everyone. You manage your own caseload in every sense but becomes tricky for taking a vacation, being off if you’re sick as the work continues and there is no one to cover you; This is a field position that can take you as far as 2.5 hours away (5 hours round trip) and you will be in the car 90% of your work week. Management is either overworked and have too many direct reports or they are lazy. Either way, don’t expect much from nursing management in the way of on the job knowledge and being available to answer a question on an ad hoc basis during normal business hours of 9-5. Emails often go unanswered indefinitely and/or phone calls are not returned for days, if at all. Yet, I too frequently receive emails into the night about mundane tasks and reports that are due. There are some operational concerns with getting direct and concise feedback on metrics, bonus and a concrete timeline for payout. Still have yet to receive info on when Q1 bonus will be paid out and we are halfway through Q2.
