Pros

Management allows you to have very flexible work hours. They are very accomodating of your needs outside work (i.e family and outside life). Gap Inc is also a very socially responsible company and they put in a lot of effort and resoutces to ensure that workers in their factories are treated fairly and are paid a fair living wage. Also, due to the huge workload that they give you there is really a great opportunity to learn a lot through doing. Leadership is very competent and we have a lot of trust and respect in the job they are doing. They are also excellent at comminucating information down to the lower levels.

Cons

Gap Inc runs a very lean workforce at the headquarters. As such they give a lot of responsibility to individual contributors. Workload is huge. This means that there are a lot of late nights and long hours during certain busy times. Also, although they let you work independently, because the organization is so lean there are not too many opportunities to get promoted once you get past an entry level position. Gap inc is a very merchant driven company. As such they hold a lot of power over what happens on a day to day business. At times it feels like they wield too much authority over decisions and processes while the other functions are just forced to go along with their decisions.

Pros

There are smart, talented employees & a 50% off clothing discount. The company is recognized for hiring outstanding employees within the retail industry. There are volunteer opportunities which you can do during your work schedule.

Cons

There are a lot of office politics so even though you are talented you may not get recognized. Also because it is a retail company there are a lot of last minute change requests which can be stressful and frustrating. The company has seen its better days and there can be layoffs.

Pros

Great employee discount and flexible hours. And since this is a well-known and established retailer working here looks good on a resume. There is also room for advancement within the company as well and they have an excellent training program if you are looking to climb the corporate ladder. Payscale could use some improvement however. Overall, good place to work and since the hours are flexible it's great for students as well as people just starting out in their career. I would definitely recommend employment at the Gap for people who want to work for a well known, established retailer.

Cons

Annoying customers who always think they are right.
