Pros

I cannot commend Gartner enough for their overall transparency, especially in their stand against racism and inequality during such troubling times. They're also a very stable company, pay out their bonuses as promised and take measures to prevent loss of jobs. Overall, they're very transparent on where they're taking the company, which is appreciated. The people are also super great. Extremely good benefits and I love the PTO.

Cons

Generally speaking, it's disappointing how they've planned to keep employees motivated and prevent burn out during Covid. They have all this research about how to address this, but they do not hold managers accountable for it. Communication between managers and recruiters about how to get promoted is abysmal. You really have to bust your butt for years to get any kind of promotion or recognition; making the day to day work you do seem unappreciated, unnoticed, and unrewarded. They're not a software company, so I don't think they have a strong grasp on the need to keep technical talent and good technical recruiters. There are multiple recruiting program teams to support recruiters, but ultimately they seem unuseful as it's up to the recruiter do most of the heavy lifting for anything like sponsoring events, etc. (again, fine, but why have them as a partner?) Recruiting tools and internal systems are very clunky. They also seem to make recruiting decision without thought to the impact of current teams or have a well-thought out plan to make sure changes don't have negative repercussions.

Pros

Well established client base. Some employees care.

Cons

Senior leadership is uninspiring. There are only a handful who may demonstrate traits that are somewhat admirable. Most senior leaders have the following characteristics- (1) they say they care about voice of the client but the only voice they care about is our CEO’s. It doesn’t matter if he is right or wrong, every single leader is out to please him! (2) they abuse data to confirm their bias. Now if their bias was in favor of the client, it may still be acceptable. No! Data is used to support their selfish goals aimed at protecting their fragile egos or furthering their power. (3) they often treat their teams poorly! Cutting them off! Not listening to them! (4) 95% of the male leaders need genuine understanding of the basics of listening , they need to own and self reflect on rampant unconscious bias!!!We say we care about equality and yet I feel unheard in meeting after meeting! Oh yeah, I am a minority. (5) collaboration is a joke!!! Lip service! No one cares about collaborating ..when results are down they blame each other like litttle children!! Politics politics politics!!

Great People, Terrible Processes

Pros

Gartner has really great people and I get along with nearly everyone I work with.

Cons

Work life balance is not good. You are NOT paid what you're worth, there is no pay transparency, and you have to work at a level or two above your title for 6 months-1 year before you're actually promoted so that your title and comp match your performance. Org is also terrible at maintaining employee mental health. Leaders are not well trained to respond to crisis, making 2020 a difficult year to work for Gartner. If you value your mental wellbeing and financial worth, this is NOT the place for you. Find a place that values you in comp, benefits and recognition the way they should. Gartner does not practice what they preach.
