Pros

They have very valuable brand cachet, credibility and market presence, at least with IT executives and decision makers. Very robust research products and some extremely talented analysts.

Cons

They are hiring way, way, way too many salespeople and have a lot of turnover in sales now. The territories are oversaturated and they are having a hard time finding competent sales reps, so they have really dumbed down their field sales team. Consulting does not seem interested in doing smaller deals for smaller clients. They do not show consistency of how people get promoted or advance, particularly in sales. They also need to come up with an enterprise model and ways to more effective share their intellectual property to be more competitive.

Pros

Well known name in IT field. Nice office complex in Stamford.

Cons

Too many 'management' positions; huge hierarchy. Employee morale was terrible. No care or concern for employees; poor senior management. Such a huge overlap in my former department that they started terminating employees left and right...and 2 weeks before I was due to get my yearly bonus, as tiny as that was! Working there felt like a slap in the face.

Pros

Family, work life balance is very much supported within Gartner. Flexibility of work time is also supported highly within the organization. Gartner provides excellent benefits. Gartner also provides a lot of opportunity to move within the organization and to other locations where a particular business operates from including overseas.

Cons

Lack of accountability by management and associates who should own tasks or projects. Middle management competence is quite low. Accountability usually lies on lower level associates which lowers morale and keeps people from being motivated to take risks and be innovative. Personal ambitions and agendas take precedence more often then not. Thats not to say that many companies are not like that but world class companies operate like teams and not against each other, which seems to be the case across many areas.
