Pros

401K match is decent. The company provides opportunities for less educated individuals to gain work experience and transition into management and work with there for a long time. There are some very hard-working, dedicated, and loyal employees, in spite of the challenging work environment and cyclical business environment.

Cons

Management salaries are quite low and expect to work very long hours, with little recognition or demonstration of appreciation for your hard work. Don't expect any raises - know of several employees who have never received a raise and have worked 4, 5, and 6 years and are strong and dedicated employees! Training, at all levels, is very poor - you are basically thrown into the job and left to figure it out yourself. Ironically, the Company has spent considerable sums of money to provide on-line learning modules for management development and Continuous Improvement but they exist in a theoretical vacuum with little connection or application day-to-day work and challenges. CI improvements are little more than visuals and any new initiatives introduced have little long-term impact and are not sustained. The unit in which I worked functions by way of tribal knowledge rather than thoughtful and well-written operations manuals, etc. Defined processes are lacking and things tend to be very disorganized. While many managers and supervisors in operational roles have lots of experience within the airline catering industry most have limited education background and this is reflected in poor managerial and people skills. Team work is rare and the there is lots of back-stabbing and inter-departmental feuding and finger-pointing. New Managers and Directors hired from the outside, face lots of obstacles from long-term managers and supervisors who resent newcomers with less experience in the industry and make it difficult to succeed.

Pros

Great People, Great Business, Solid Values, Great 401K match

Cons

Benefits are expensive and company doesn't provide short term or long term disability coverage [you have the option to elect it], no work/life balance, no tuition reimbursement, raises/merits are a hit and miss, no bonus payout.

Pros

Gate Gourmet offer employees a good basket of corporate benefits and will give non-advertised benefits which are not readily available to others, providing employees agree to sign a non-disclosure note. Modern offices, some great staff, and good facilities with the exception of horrible coffee.

Cons

Limited opportunity to for advancement, organization rarely promotes from within preferring external candidates. Arrogant executives who think they know more about customer desires than those on the front lines with customers. Poor strategy. Little to no market differentiation. I was awarded a pay rise and a bonus and then asked to lie to my direct reports, stating that due to poor results there was no money for them. Management mentality is old fashioned and out of date.
