Excessively conservative underwriting, in part, has led to loss of business. Inconsistent approaches have been attempted to control expenses. All of the above plus multiple poorly conceived and executed attempts at restructuring culminated in significant layoffs. Loss of experienced and motivated staff have weakened Gen Re's ability to execute its business model as advertised. Apart from being smaller, sadly it is now also a lesser version of its former self.

Focus on expense management negatively effects moral of employees.
