Pros

Genentech was a wonderful company to work when it was still Genentech. It had an excellent mission, creating treatments for patient's unmet medical needs, and there was great dedication to patients. My peers were first class people and peers and very team oriented.

Cons

As the company grew there was a struggle to maintain its original and unique culture, especially ay the middle management level, which tended to be transitional. After the recent acquisition, by Roche, there was a distinct change in culture - not necessarily a bad culture, but more hierarchical , less agile and open. However, there is still the same dedication to patients.

Pros

Good employer, supportive of employees, decent compensation. GNE management is generally transparent and open with employee's. Vast majority of coworkers are very bright and passionate about their work. Working at Genentech you take pride in knowing that your work has a positive impact on the life of thousands of people by saving or extending their lives.

Cons

While expected for a merger of this size, integration with Roche has been difficult. Uncertain future for some, not most, employee's.
