      Diverse Pipeline - Not People

      Pros

      There is an Amazing pipeline in all brand lines. The company supports patient access to therapies with million of dollars every year. Managers don't feel the need to micromanage within Genentech. Constant movement offers vast opportunities for growth. The company offers lots of programs for development. If you prefer success through work - this is the place for you. But be aware that the work hard - play hard motto has dampened with Roche coming in. Generally, people here mean well.

      Cons

      Although there is spoken interest in diversity there is little action. I'm African American and my manager has never addressed opportunities for me to develop within the company. There is always the issue of 'good fit for the team' that is used when candidates are not chosen for positions even when very qualified. I've recommended excellent minority candidates in the past but they are never hired. There's a bit of a shell game with expectations and work- life balance. The managers in the field are not always on target with the home office.
