Pros

Feels great to know that you're contributing in the fight against cancer. Lots of smart and passionate people. Feel great waking up in the morning knowing that YOU make a difference. Company bonus plan is very generous if you're a performer. Genentech is always very focused of people development and isn't shy about spending money on continuing education.

Cons

Work/life balance can be a very difficult. Some of the "lifers" have a total sense of entitlement and don't know how good they have it compared to other companies - and it shows in their level of contribution. Promotion is very difficult due to company desire for flat organizational hierarchy. The politics can be a grind at times.

Pros

The patients and families that are helped by our therapies are always number one. Employees who feel that way will just thrive here. You're also surrounded by great management, smart people, all in a very casual work environment. Its great to work in an environment without a lot of rules or processes.

Cons

Its not necessarily a downside, but you do have to work hard here. This isn't a place where you can expect to do JUST what your job description reads.

Pros

Genentech does important work and has a phenomenal culture that places patients first--we do the right thing, period. We have a bright future due our strong, balanced pipeline of drugs in various stages of development, and a solid portfolio of leading products on the market today. And our executive leadership team is second to none. The benefits are great, my coworkers are smart and motivated, and I almost always look forward to coming to work every day.

Cons

We're going through some significant changes that have been challenging (installing SAP, seeking Class A certification in manufacturing, etc.), as you'd expect. In the past, we've set extremely aggressive goals that some felt set us up to fail.
