Genentech is a great place to work

Pros

If you are a regular full time employee, Genentech has great benenfits, generous time off and sick leave policies and many perks to engage employees ( weekly hoho's, department recognition events, Genentech gives back to the community events). The company is focused on improving the quality of lives of patients with serious diseases. It is very fulfilling work knowing you are positively impacting the lives of others.

Cons

Compensation is competitive and you can make more/money at other biotech/pharmaceutical companies, but the slightly lower salary at Genentech is offset by the benefit package. The environment has been trending toward a more corporate feel ever since the Roche take over.

Pros

Strong company with a strong and growing future, solid leadership in most areas, good benefits and competitive compensation. Great perks known by the Bay Area's top companies.

Cons

Has lost a noticeable amount of the Bay Area fast company feel and culture over the last few year largely due to being integrated into large pharma thinking and practices. Can be difficult to get things done, especially in a global setting. Employee Performance review process and related compensation awards out dated and does not necessarily consistently reward strong performance (ratings a based on a distribution curve).
