Pros

I like the job itself, helping patients live longer lives is very rewarding. Some of the people there are very interesting, knowledgeable and caring.

Cons

There are some very knowledgeable, experienced supervisors. But there are some supervisors that are promoted to their position for the sole reason that they have relatives or friends in high positions. They are very ignorant and inexperienced on how to manage people. Or how to manage at all. This leads to many problems on the floor. Many of those abuse their power and use for their own monetary gains.

Pros

name recognition, exposure to some interesting projects and people.

Cons

truly toxic, hellish IT environment. you will encounter the worst kind of inefficiency, bureaucracy and corporate backstabbers in this environment. i read similar descriptions before i was hired and wish i would've paid more attention to it. particularly bad treatment as a contractor, where you will be worked like a dog with no recognition and bombarded with other miserable contractors counting the days until their contract is up. stay away.

Pros

benefits - but declining every year.

Cons

Genentech is very close to the point of being just like any other large corporation. The bureaucracy is at an all time high. Once the economy bounces back, employees will be bouncing. Most of management is dishonest-Genentech only cares about one thing-it's not the employees, nor the patients. The morale for the majority of employees has dropped significantly. For years GNE was in the top 10 of Fortunes best companies to work for. Even got #1 in 2006. This year down to #35. Working its way off the list. GNE used to strongly promote a "work-life balance" environment. Now its all about running lean. Promotions usually based on one's ability to kiss management butt, not performance. Which is a shame because there are a lot of hard working honest employees who put the job they're doing first.
