Gradual Erosion of what used to be a great company

Pros

"Patients first" and "science driven" are not just slogans, they are meaningful and motivating.

Cons

The ability to get things done has greatly eroded. Politics within and across functions have removed projects as the central focus. There are too many committees before decisions are made, which slows everything in the pipeline and portfolio. Leadership is average, used to be stellar. Is now an extremely risk averse environment, after Roche acquired Genentech. Benefits chiseled away every year. Even the price of food in cafeteria has risen - salmon, rice, carrots this week for lunch was over $10.

Pros

Great pipeline, great science, great people, great benefits, opportunities for many lateral moves and rotations.

Cons

Decentralized functional model causes a lot of duplication of effort, competitiveness. At times "one hand does not know what the other is doing". This also applies to interactions with CROs and other vendors. A lot of waste, sadly, but protects "turf." Luck of the draw on great managers.
