Cons

Hiring a lot of new management with out shipbuilding experience, doesn't take advice from experienced mechanics. Safety is put aside when it effects production

Pays good and co workers are supportive of each other across the trades.

Cons

The yard is poorly managed. The design is unrealistic and mechanics have to fix the issues and the planners can't plan a days event and haven't worked a day on a ship.

Pros

Working for the best shipbuilder in the US provides an excellent atmosphere to grow professionally for employees that are willing to give it their best. In the 8 years I have been at BIW, I have changed jobs 3 times, each with more responsibility and opportunity to learn and grow.

Cons

Parking can be an issue for employees assigned at the Main Yard. But the company provides free park and ride with shuttle service, and info on Pay Lots, if you do not have an assigned parking spot. Also, many employees join car pools.
