Pros
Although rare, it is cool to go on the subs and the waterfront work environment is beautiful. Also I was allowed the opportunity to do real engineering work (mostly calculations) as an intern, where in some previous positions I had been stuck doing busy work.
Cons
Innovative design is rare. Usually just re-using old designs or doing calculations to prove the adequacy of someone else's design.
