Pros

Electric Boat produces a unique product that takes years to develop and years to build, this can be rewarding if you find the niche you are interested in. There are many opportunities from design, engineering, and construction. Advocate for yourself to get into a position that interests you and you'll enjoy the work. 401k investment opportunities along with being 100% vested from day one is excellent (probably next on list to be cut)

Cons

Upper management is top heavy and considers employees expendable. Current business climate is excellent with large long term contracts, and high corporate profits, yet employee benefits are being cut. Raises have been significantly reduced in the last year, tuition reimbursement cut, and sick time reduced. All of these items are being done to increase overall corporate profit. Parking is difficult, plan on wasting time riding a bus or parking far away unless you arrive at work by 6am. Work processes are often cumbersome, slow, and frustrating. Support to improve these processes is often non-existent. Upper management needs to focus on fixing the significant issues which could lead to meaningful improvements in lieu of micro managing issues which have little bearing on the bottom line. As with any company there are people who underperformers and add little value. Management does little to correct this behavior.

Dissatisfied Employee Here

Pros

Working level employees are great to work with. Most are smart and competent and are willing to help out if you ask.

Cons

Management does not seem to care about their employees with respect to their career goals and aspirations. An overwhelming amount of the work is paper pushing, with little to no hands on work. As a new-ish engineer, I don't feel like I'm developing my technical skills, which is concerning. Oh, and parking sucks big time (though it doesn't seem to be bad at all for management).

Pros

Good people, feels rewarding depending on what you get to work on. Plenty of options to move around in the company. Good brown nosing leads to promotions more quickly. Pays for certain masters degrees, need to be technical.

Cons

Company strives to spend as little money as possible despite excessive profits and as an employee you feel it. Recently normalized benefits, effectively reducing them to blend in with what similar industry offers. No parking unless you're part of management, otherwise you're taking a shuttle which is part of your commute and not on company time.
