They treat contractors like 2nd class citizens

Pros

Decent wage, interesting work on an import vehicle (Stryker). Congenial and knowledgeable coworkers within GD.

Cons

Reactive not proactive, unprofessional office management. Required to work 50 hrs/week with straight time over 40 hrs. Aberdeen Proving Ground has its own rules for success, strangest working environment I've ever experienced. Nepotism rules. Alcohol and drug abuse common. My engineering degree was actually a disadvantage.

Pros

Their benefits package is still slightly above average, but they keep lowering it to be "competitive".

Cons

The executives would all sell their mothers for a $10 increase in their bonuses. As a group they are the worst group of managers, definitely not leaders, I've experienced in 30 years of professional experience.

Upper Management Needs to Step Up, Change or Go

Pros

Work- Light workload, little overtime and comp time if worked, 9/80 and flexible work schedule is great for working moms, job rotation for high potentials, gppd merits for top performers, little interference from immediate supervisor Social- Fitness center, golf outings, ladies nights, Christmas parties

Cons

Benefits package gets worse every year. Upper management too focused on details, not the big picture, not forward-looking, won't change to new ways of thinking. Outdated technology causes delays. Older employees (50 and up) are in management positions they are not qualified for, can't change to new ways of doing things, are jealous of younger employees and overly critical of them. Few opportunities for advancement to management levels for younger, dynamic top performers.
