      Decent Pay; 6am-230pm workday; sometimes we get over time; 401K; decent healthcare

      Cons

      treated like the military; constantly forced to travel around the world for up to a year at a time; management does not even know what our SCA job duties are; forcing us to work outside of our pay scale to save the company money; Management is willing to work us 10+ hours a day/7 days a week if they want too; We are forced to sit at work for 8 hours a day when there is no work to be done, but we get written up if we take a longer lunch break or if we fall asleep watching netflix. This has been constant for the last 3 years during the winter months; under paid for the kind of equipment we work on.

      -401k match -insurance is covered, but high deductible

      Cons

      -Management is incompetent -the union, which you have no choice but to join, is incompetent or just doesn’t care A union is supposed to protect its people, but this one does not. They cater to the company at all times. Upper management also only sees you as a number, people are getting disciplinary action for calling off with legitimate doctors notes. The company is also in the process of calling back >30 people from a lay-off, and we are finding out now that we will have to go a whole year with our vacation or personal time. The pay will be good if you can make it the 6 years to get the top rate.

      Pros

      I have been part of 3 different groups in my time at GD, and all the management and people I have worked with have been great. Sure there are some bad apples here and there, but they are so rare it's negligible. Overall, great community, and interesting work.

      Cons

      The only con with the job is software organization. There are no code reviews, we do not use static code analysis, and there is little to no documentation for any projects. This makes it difficult to get on new projects because instead of reading some documentation, you have to bug somebody who is super busy.
