Pros

A good work-life balance. Management understanding of family issues.

Cons

Fun and challenging opportunities are rare. For software engineers an expectation of rigidity in schedule. Flex time only flexes by an hour each direction

Pros

Excellent people, good to work with, some of the best in the business, Lots of real life robotic experience to learn from. Very research-oriented. Robotics Collaborative Technology Alliance is a great way to stay in touch with the latest in robotics.

Cons

Customer has been very fickle recently, largely because there is so much competition in the robotics field that they get swayed in many directions, and the Army has had difficulty finding their direction. Funding has suffered. GDRS reports to Land Systems which mostly makes big armored vehicles. They don't always understand the very high-tech, researchy, demo-oriented work that GDRS does. Also, GDRS engineering has had difficulty managing and maintaining the very large code base that has resulted from all the technology development.
