Good work/life balance. Stable future for most projects/teams

Cons

Slowly stripping back benefits that made GDMS more competitive compared to their lower than average salaries. Minimal opportunities for career growth outside of the major sites (ex. Pittsfield and Scottsdale)

GDMS - Pittsfield

Senior advanced systems engineer

Pros

Work in fairly small teams, interdisciplinary collaboration, hands on testing, occasional travel to support deliveries, several different programs/projects to work on, improving culture and work-life balance, 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off)

Cons

some programs have a very slow pace and are change averse, some programs are too fast and are exhaustive, some workers do not carry their weight or are unqualified, leadership is often overburdened which can stifle progress or lead to poor decision making.

Reasonably Good with some Caviats

Pros

I worked on a pretty great team, with a lot of smart people. Work can be very rewarding and exciting. Salary is reasonable dependent on location. (Pro for low COL areas)

Cons

My department had a lot of "routine" technical manager rotations. SMEs and highly regarded individual contributors overworked. Salary is not reasonable dependent on location. (Bad pay for Metropolitan areas) Management can be inflexible and uncaring. Refuse to allow movements to other teams when requested. Often left in the dark until day of or day before of upcoming tasking. Satellite offices often are one-program shops. If the program dies, so does the office.
