Pros

Consistent employment. If one chooses to, one may remain at GDAIS until their dying day. Unless one violates a major core policy, it is practically impossible to loose one's job. This has both advantages and disadvantages.

Cons

Managers worked their way up from lower engineering levels. They have no education or experience in management. They manage what they can, not what they should. Nepotism is rampant throughout GDAIS. Effort is rarely rewarded or recognized. Management style is both patronizing and punitive.

Pros

They paid well and I worked with some excellent people. The work, when there is work, is generally interesting and sometimes challenging. The lower management layer is success oriented, compassionate, and technically astute.

Cons

Upper management has far too many people to run a company of this size, driving up overhead and making the company non-competitive. The recent "flattening" of management did nothing to alleviate this problem - all the good old boys are still there - still a burden that adds nothing and is sucking the company dry.

Pros

Somewhat flexible work schedule, mostly challenging work

Cons

Lack of a competitive benefits package, poor pay increases - always blaming the need to stay competitive, while senior staff reap great dividends from contract incentives. I have worked for General Electric, Martin Marietta, Lockheed Martin and then General Dynamics over a 40 year career both as an hourly worker to a Senior Engineer, General Dynamics was by far the worst. GD took all our benefits away since taking over our plant. Ethics is just a poster on the wall!
