Pros

- Supportive management, they hear you out and play to your strengths - Interesting work and variety of projects - Learning/growth is encouraged and enabled

Cons

- It's DoD work, so time charging is strict and a big pain. Big culture shock if coming from private industry/start-ups - Often told to "find more work" yourself, lots of cases where because you're UX you need to defend your existence on every program you start

Pros

People on direct and supporting teams, schedule, PTO

Cons

Upper management are out of touch but make decisions that impact you, processes are horrendous, they are routinely not followed by departments we support, processes routinely change every few weeks, most timelines are unrealistic to go through processes anyway, nothing is simplified, nothing is automated, nothing is organized, nothing changes for the better regarding process problems despite the many process changes which adds to the frustration, there are many conflicting ways to do the same job dependent on location you support or person performing the role, ruled by bureaucracy/ competing priorities rather than vision. The overall effect of all that is your time and energy are disposable, and part of your job is to accept the soul killing nature of the business. Not a good place to work if you care and are not just punching the clock then checking out.
