Pros

Decent vacation compared to my friends but none are engineers so it’s hard to know. The benefits are decent but see below. Good location. Lots of parking since in a suburb. Decent cost of living for a metro area.

Cons

I think GDMS in general does not get how to support software engineers at all. No Linux support at all. Windows boxes on desks that we don’t want. Makeshift Linux systems setup for each contract, bad IT support by engineers whose main job is not support so can’t blame them. I hear constantly about other newer contracts being underbid with required overtime for months on end and too many inexperienced staff. Not sure how true. If your spouse takes GD health insurance even though their employer offers the absolute worst super expensive insurance GD will charge you more than coworkers whose spouses don’t work. GD considers your spouse as taking advantage - stated in the meeting by company president when the policy was announced. The 401k match is not great compared to other places. Constant reorganization but it doesn’t affect the bottom level much.

Pros

I worked at GDMS for a very short time (<1yr), but really loved how employees got treated there. Management really tried hard to keep employees happy. GDMS is located in Scottsdale, which is in the nicer part of Phoenix. 9/80 work schedule which allows you to take every other Friday off. The "decompression room" has nice big screen TV, with X-box and Playstation along with pingpong table and foosball table. 401k matching up to 4.5%. Nice small perks like paying $150 toward your gym membership and free Valley Metro card allowing you to take buses and light rails at no cost.

Cons

The company can't seem to win any work contracts. Maybe marketing department needs to step up their level. Due to this, your job might not be very stable. Engineering tools (SW/HW) and workstations are a bit dated, not keeping up with the outside world.

Pros

Management team is very focused on results from company wide employee surveys that take place every two years, to target areas for improvements that come directly from employee feedback. These improvements are tracked closely to ensure there are tangible results. This is very impressive compared t other company's where I have worked. This is not lip service, very impressive.

Cons

Fast pace of work, but excellent opportunity to make contributions if you demonstrate you're capable.
