      Decent job, decent benefits.

      Pros

      Worked as a field systems engineer in the CPOF program. Decent place to work if you need somewhere to beef up your system administrator and other IT skills. The program I worked for gave you plenty of flexibility to work on and study whatever you wanted when things were slow or there were no trouble tickets to handle.

      Cons

      Working as a contractor means that at any point in time there will be budget cuts and employee lay offs. Company leadership tried to take care of us as best they could, but if there were cuts then we as the field engineers wouldn't find out until the absolute last minute. Also, you don't get good over time benefits because each project has a set budget; so if you have to work overtime to get the customers systems up and running and overtime has not been computed in the budget, then you're screwed.

Government cuts are difficult and we are doing everything that we can to protect our core programs by engaging key leadership in Washington, and pursuing new opportunities.       Pros

      Flexible hours, every second Friday off, interesting work, Very friendly and helpful staff. GD Canada pays higher than average salaries.

      Cons

      Too much unnecessary process is enforced on people. Depending on the manager, very difficult to get promoted. Prospects of future new business look grim. Poor organization of projects and roles.

      Significant changes/upheaval causing LOTS of turmoil; nature of layoffs hurting morale.
