Pros

Great benefits and investment plan, time off, flex schedule (if approved), opportunities to work on multiple programs, great place to network both inside the company and with outside customers. Warfighter focused!

Cons

Personal growth opportunity within the company was pathetic at best if you were anything BUT an engineer. If you were in a 'support' position you were not given opportunity. Senior management did NOT listen to employees that had ideas for creating or producing more business opportunities. If they did, it came across as 'their idea' which quickly fizzled because they would not have the details of the plan or idea. Management had no qualms about lying to the customer, therefore they lost numerous large programs which was the catalyst to the mass layoff of highly qualified employees. In the beginning I thought being able to write my own evaluation was fantastic, how simple and great is that? After 5 years of putting the same goals and 'stretch goals' (someone explain that to me, I still don't get it) and NOT getting any assistance in obtaining them from your supervisor, it makes it an annual exercise in futility and a complete waste of time. The former CEO was very employee centric and took the time to get to know them, this new one is only about the bottom line.

Pros

GD offers flexible hours, a decent working environment, good people to work with, work that can be exciting and challenging, decent pay, etc.

Cons

GD keeps cutting benefits, laying off people, and asking those who remain to put in even more overtime. Our division started out as Motorola Government Electronics, and it was obvious that Motorola cared about its employees. There was 2-way loyalty between the company and its employees. GD took over and that remained a while. But now, it is obvious the company has little loyalty to its employees, because they keep cutting benefits. They say they're staying 'competitive', but the benefit cuts are never ending. I'm not feeling much loyalty from them towards me, and I know many others feel the same way. If you want a company that cares about building loyalty and doing good things for its loyal employees, GD isn't it. If you just want a company that gives you a paycheck, GD's pretty good for that.
