Pros

I'm so furious with this company I can come up with no Pros.

Cons

This company still walks a fine line by laying off older workers (especially at higher salary grades) and then replacing they with younger employees. They offer the older employee a package or "new" position for 90 or so days after which "they will be graded" - when in reality they are setting them up to fail in the new position, it's the goal of the new manager to ensure their failure so that they can then be let go with NO package. This company has NO loyalty to good long-term employees therefore you should have no loyalty to this company either.

Paternalistic Culture

Pros

Opportunity to work on nationally recognized brands within CPG/FMCG.

Cons

There was/is a paternalistic culture in place that very rarely encourages diverse experience and thought. With General Mills (GMI) being known as an organization that trains-up their young employees directly out of college--there are 'classes' of college graduates that come into the organization each year--you often come across people in the organization who think the same way. There are many 'lifers' at GMI, making it even more difficult for experienced hires to have a voice and challenge the status quo. If you are a recent college graduate, then GMI may be the place for you. However, those with several years of experience in the industry may have a difficult time with the cliquish, borderline cult-like mentality that you too often come across at GMI.

Pros

Strong portfolio of brands. Sr. Leadership is well intentioned. There are a number of talented people who work here. Company generally pays well.

Cons

The company culture doesn't match the pay. Onboarding for experienced new hires is terrible. Company has a VERY strong culture that is difficult for new hires to get acclimated to. "We want New & Different ways of thinking/working" has almost become the company mantra but the culture tends to shun "new & different" instead of reward it. Diversity of people, culture, and ethnicity is not as acceptable as the company thinks it is. Company has been affected by a rash of turnover and the leadership doesn't seem to care.
