Pros

Organization and professionalism, quality of life, remuneration and benefits. There is an excellent and transparent incentive plan with clearly set out and measureable objectives related to both company ( either corporate, division or function) performance and personal performance. ( the objectiveness of personal performance review will be more dependenmt on your individual manager but consistency is improving) They focuis on training and development and are willing to invest in individual personal development. The brands and products are excellent and you can always feel proud when telling people outside the company what you work on from Cheerios, to Haagen Dazs - some of the most sought after brands to manage in any company worldwide. For example, Haagen Dazs is the most prestigious brand after only Sony in the highly brand aware country of Japan. If you are really interested, the opportunity for International experience is growing fast with potential for moves to other countries around the world - usually reserved for more experioenced managers and high potential people in the organization

Cons

Slow, matrix structure makes navigating the organization difficult - anyone has the popwer of veto, no-one has authority to make a decision when there are cross funtional / divisional challenges

Pros

General Mills has a beautiful campus, great benefits and exciting brands. A healthy work life balance is promoted at General Mills and employees value their time away from the office. Most employees at General Mills take pride in their job and it shows through the quality of their work and their attitude in the office. Overall, it is an extremely positive atmosphere at General Mills and people enjoy their jobs. General Mills also takes care of their employees. Employeed feel empowered and secure in their jobs and don't feel like there is a target on their back. In terms of large companies in the twin cities, General Mills is definitely one of the best.

Cons

Like many big companies, General Mills is very political. Office politics play a big role in promotion decisions. Organizational changes are kept under wraps by senior managment so oftentimes there is quite a bit of gossiping around the company. Since the company is so large it seems to take forever for decisions to be made. You could almost compare the company to a huge ship in that it takes a long time to turn. Also, since General Mills is such a great company there are a lot of employeed who have been here for a long time. It is sometimes hard to bring in new ideas.
