      Steer Clear of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions

      Pros

      Many former employees of this office have reached top positions at other universities. Strong 'alumni network' that makes leaving this poorly run office easy to do.

      Cons

      After Leadership changes in the office, subsequent 'ranking scandal' and decline in academic selectivity of the university - the office has become an extremely toxic environment. The reputation of the department in the field is one of the worst. Avoid this office like the plague.

      I have PTSD from working in undergrad admissions

      Pros

      It's nice to know that no job I have will ever be as bad at my experience in the GW undergrad admissions office. It's only up from here!

      Cons

      There are so many I hardly know where to begin. I'll say this to summarize: working here was the worst experience of my life. I felt disrespected on a good day, and abused the rest of the time. Take a look at the turnover numbers - they speak for themselves!

      Pros

      The tuition benefits and generous vacation are strong benefits. Good work-life balance (everyone is out the door at 5). Metro accessible.

      Cons

      Absolutely crippling bureaucracy. Management has no innovation or creative qualities. Middle management afraid to make decisions. Touted as "pay for performance" but max raises are capped at 4-5%.
