Good place to be

Pros

Good culture, good values, good students.

Cons

Most of the university divisions are held down by the lowest common denominator. Staff are offered a great deal of lip service re: gratitude, but there is a history of making up for losses via staff benefits (not faculty). The HR unit is fairly unhelpful to everyday employees.

Hostile workplace (McCourt School)

Pros

Staff and faculty include smart, dedicated people who care about their work and the mission of the school and university. Students are a bright spot for many people - they are full of passion and fun to teach and work with.

Cons

Current senior leadership are some of the most unprofessional, and toxic, individuals I’ve ever encountered. The interim dean and COS have single-handed destroyed the warm and collegial workplace built by the previous Dean before she left. They give lip service to the idea of fostering a supportive workplace but it appears that their primary goals are consolidating their own power. Members of the senior leadership team seem unable to truly think strategically, ideate or execute on degree or other programs that would better position McCourt. They frequently block, rather than encourage, collaboration. Staff, directors and faculty at the school are unhappy and many are looking for an exit. A new Dean is starting soon so there is some hope for a change in this dynamic but people are skeptical.
