      Demonstrate high competence + cultivate a positive working relationship with your supervisor = you will be entrusted with autonomy and agency. It's a great place to work for the truly competent, and for those invested in a values-based employer.

      Cons

      The cons of being a relationship-based institution is less-than-competent employees being free to skate by if they have a supervisor who is too busy to manage their performance. Supervision ranges widely from office to office, and there is a wide gap between the performance of competent and professional staff versus staff who are coasting by with little to show.
