The ED is the definition of crazy. I hate to say this, as I try to give the benefit of the doubt to female leaders of a certain age. She talks about all her employees to her other employees behind their backs and creates a hostile work environment. She is emotionally abusive, and her deputy director is so much on the spectrum that she doesn't even see it. The ED runs everyone out of her institute, so much so that she has constant turnover (more than the other institutes). Another ED recommended I complain about her to HR, and I didn't want to deal with it all, so I didn't. However, it's inevitable that someone will file a complaint with HR. For example, you should tell her when you leave to go use the bathroom, as she wants to know exactly where you are at all times. If you're gone longer than an hour, she will freak. I never left my desk for 12 hours straight. She told me she expects you to work law firm hours, even though you're making 3 times less. She will try to continue to ruin your career after you leave, even if you have nearly perfect work evaluations with her (my situation). Given that she has become very influential in the climate space, you need to be careful before accepting a job with her. You earn around $65k to work about 12 hours a day. I don't think this is a good use of a hard-earned law degree. There is little room to grow, and there is no salary transparency or parity as you are there longer than a year. The irony is that a law school allows for search clear violations of HR best practices.
