Pros

I thoroughly enjoy working with the people I work with at Georgetown University. My supervisor, Professor Diana Owen, has been absolutely supportive of me ever since I arrived and is a terrific supervisor. My time spent there has been rewarding and educational.

Cons

The job as research associate was never intended to be permanent. I was asked to stay on after graduation and decided to do so for a limited time out of loyalty to Professor Owen and the research team, and because I feel passionate about our research project. However, the position is not a full-time salary position. I have nothing negative to say about working in my current duties. It was a complete honor and privilege to work there.

Not all departments offer reliable pay or lecturing assignments. PhDs are unionizing, however

Pros

Georgetown has a beautiful campus. My office is remarkably close and very supportive. The university offers great benefits. Health insurance is good and their retirement contribution is the best I've seen. The tuition assistance program is the biggest benefit!

Cons

The university is hard to get to. Management is siloed and there is not a lot of consistency in management. It's hard to move forward in your career if you're in a small office.
