Pros

IF you like Georgetown, then the location is great. You don't have to travel too far to get to Wisconsin and M St, and Glover Park actually has some good places to grab lunch on your break. The salary is quite competitive, especially for research assistants who are still in grad school. Since the economists who work there are also teaching or doing some research with Georgetown University, they're very open about helping you with your work and are willing to take the time to explain either how to calculate certain things, which software to use, or even how to set up your Excel sheet correctly if you're new.

Cons

As a person who enjoys a bit more liveliness, the office can be just a total downer. Everyone stays in their office the entire day and it's so quiet you can hear the air coming out of the vents. Not only that, but research assistants are put into a little nook in the middle of the floor with no windows, natural light, or connectivity. One of the desks just meets in the center where the walls are coming in, and if you suffer from claustrophobia you might freak out. Those who are there put their earbuds in all day and don't have much to say.

Pros

Collegial work environment. Academically stimulating. Good opportunities for professional development. Impressive name recognition. Pretty decent employee benefits. Ability to interact with top-notch students. Good mission.

Cons

Salaries are relatively low, and merit raises and/or promotions are few and far between. There is the propensity to give large and impressive titles at promotion time, instead of salary increases.

Pros

Great Benefits, location, education opportunities. Staff can study free if accepted and time allows.

Cons

Lot of bureaucracies, things do not get done on time. Key positions are held by senior people that have been there too long and reluctant to embrace change.
