Pros

The students I interact with are exceptional people from all over the world. My colleagues are intelligent and by and large committed to the department mission. The benefits are excellent.

Cons

Compensation for administrative positions is terrible to the extent that is begs the question of justice and fairness, something that is a very important value for a Jesuit institution. The personnel policies and practices are archaic and defensive on the part of the university. The personnel policies (including compensation) are not worthy of the rest of the university's ideals.

Pros

-Not expected to work more than 40 hours a week, which provides for a good work/life balance.

Cons

-The most bureaucratic place - online procedures must be followed up with paper forms, which decreases efficiency and seems counterproductive. -Salaries lower than other Universities in the region. -Benefits are not good - no sick days provided which means people have to dip into vacation if something comes up health-wise. -Stingy in terms of benefits and overtime pay. -Managers do not provide opportunity to learn, and the fact that they have been in their jobs for 20+ years doesn't allow for any new ideas or change -Technology is VASTLY behind schedule (and it doesn't help that managers are afraid of change and won't learn how to use basic computer programs!) -People and departments as a whole are incredibly unhelpful. People like to push around a problem so that they and their department do not have to deal with it. -Lacking in communication. -Not enough employee appreciation -People can literally sit at their desks and do nothing all day and get paid great for it.

Pros

Washington, DC is a great city to work in and Georgetown is a great school.

Cons

It was very difficult to be promoted from within the university. The pay was very low for the cost-of-living in DC and the health and leave benefits were poor.
