Don't do it!

Pros

No commute, remote work, and health benefits. Classroom management is much easier.

Cons

-Jam packed schedule -LOTS of weekly meetings -COVID infested summer professional development. Multiple days-mandatory or you lose your job. -Lots of admins that give different directions. -Inexperienced leadership. Not all, but enough to notice, make your job harder, and make everything even more confusing. -Micromanagement -Lower pay than brick and mortar, but same or heavier workload. -Lots of programs to learn. Programs constantly change so there is constant training. Constant. -HIGH turnover.

Pros

Work from home but not worth it.

Cons

Too many to name. This job is not flexible at all. Extremely stressful. Excessive tasks that must be completed constantly. And the directions for the tasks come from 8 different places, all different, and change constantly. This is basically an operations job. But you also have to teach 6 classes a day on top of it and also do extensive lesson plans, data entry , constant testing set up on multiple platforms , PowerPoints for each class each day and upload to the platforms, and constant meetings. You also have to sit in IEP meetings and take notes and also do data setup for each student. Platforms rarely work and never get fixed and the equipment they give you to teach with is awful. Communication is terrible and directions change constantly. You need at least 3 or 4 screens for this job but they only supply you with an old laptop that doesn’t stay charged. I had 4 screens and still it wasn’t enough for the multiple platforms and tasks. Even the Head of school quit suddenly without announcing or explaining to anyone. Do not do this to yourself. It is not worth it.

GCA is AMAZING!!!!

Pros

I get way more 1 on 1 time with my students than I ever did in a physical classroom. The kids and parents are great!!! All the teachers, leads, coaches, and admin work together to help each other. We have zoom chat groups that include all teachers of one grade, one subject; one that has all teachers in 3 - 5 math and our multi-subject team teachers. These groups are FANTASTIC because when 1 teacher has a problem then they can put it in any of the groups and someone in there is going to know how to solve that problem - so you are accessing 30 or more teachers for help. We have Community Days!!! I love these! We go to a designated site close to where we live - usually a 45 min drive for me - and have a blast! We get to physically spend 1 on 1 time with our students and parents; play games, do arts and crafts, dance, get time with animal friends and learn new things about with their handlers (reptile,) and so much more!! This is my 18th year in teaching (15 at different physical schools and 3 at GCA) so I have experienced many different types of settings. GCA is by far the best!!!!

Cons

I don't really consider this to be a Con but some teachers do. There is a LOT you have to learn about different platforms when you are just coming in but teachers are going to have to learn new things when they go to any new job. With GCA there is a plethora of help so it's not long before your comfortable with what you are doing.
