Pros

Ample hours available for work. The pay is on time and accurate.

Cons

The workers that are dedicated are treated horribly. The production hours are outrageous. Typical workers pulls 60 to 70 hours per week, yet, still have to wait for the supervisor to approve you to be released to go home. With added drive time and only a 30 minute lunch break, a person suffers routinely from fatigue, growing health issues associated with lack of sleep, and families being destroyed in order to maintain the income. It is too difficult to look for work elsewhere because the workers because persons are either too exhausted or on the production line. Accidents associated to fatigue can be expected despite the safety precautions and safety meetings. True Career advancement opportunities are discouraged should you be a minority. The company knows that there is a lack of job opportunities within the area, therefore, the union is useless and company does what it wants to do. The environment is super HOT and humid in the summer. A person sweats so much that it salty water drains in their eyes from the top of their forehead. The wages is far below national standards for the Emporia, VA plant. Cute females are an automatic sure win for an air-conditioned office job. The production volume for the day is set, however, more is demanded so that the management can receive their bonuses. Many of the supervisors lacks professionalism. They talk loud and bark orders like you are in a boot camp environment. Rudeness is the only way they think that they can achieve production numbers.

Pros

I worked at a Plant, so my experience is unique due to the Plant-level being somewhat isolated from Corporate policies and practices. In general, I enjoyed the people and the freedom from sometimes domineering Corporate upper-management. MBM, although sparsely practiced at the Plant-level at GP (will talk about in the Cons section), is a fairly effective way of dealing with HOURLY employees and making them feel more valued.

Cons

Because GP has so many Plants operating under so many different kinds of people and departments, even in 2016, communication was horrendous. I had the displeasure of working under a manager who lacked any basic communication skills and relatability, but because they performed well, was lauded and considered a major asset. I was never asked to give feedback on their performance. I was never trained. Over year long period, my manager probably spent two hours explaining processes and the business to me. Instead, I was forced to write up more things I could be doing better and given criticism after criticism. There was also a major disconnect between all employees at the plant regarding MBM. You can hold meeting after meeting about continuing to push forward an MBM culture, but the more you push people (most of whom just want to work and go home), the more they mock the system behind your back and see it as almost a cult. Most things MBM preaches are common sense anyway and if your a decent person with a brain you do them without thinking.
