Pros

Solid company with rock solid balance sheet. Reinvests continually to remain competitive. Philosophical belief in being a low cost producer. Competitive benefit package. MBM

Cons

Management undervalues the personal side of human capital. Overly bureaucratic, highly paranoid; negatively influenced by Mr. Koch's politics. Emphasis on being low cost producer results in systematic inability to "sell" anything other than price in the marketplace. Many managers cannot grasp and practice MBM in "real life."

Pros

The Brunswick Cellulose site is a great workplace with extremely friendly people at all levels. The work is challenging and meaningful for the most part. Virtually unlimited possibilities for career development as all of Koch Industries Inc. is available to employees for internal transfer. Pay is well above average and after being there for a few years there is potential for an annual bonus as well.

Cons

Work life balance is not good for those who are in the process controls group or operations groups. Leadership is placed on a 5-week rotation for weekend call duty and the mill is very dependent upon salaried support. This means that very few weekend call shifts go by without having to spend a portion of the weekend at work. As with most employers, time-off and flexible hours is completely dependent on the boss--official policy is no flex hours even if you have to work a night or weekend. Leadership manages safety by requiring everyone to enter a "leading indicator" each month, even if it is "Thanked my coworker for working safely today".
