Probably a great place to work if you happen to be in a mill.

Cons

Not so good in the downstream portion of their business. Serious lack of resources yet same expectations as the mills.

Pros

The company really cares about the safety of its employees. Training is available for the ones who seek to improve on technical and managerial aspects of their job (despite recent budget cuts resulting from financial performance below goal). The company fosters bench-marking across its worldwide locations. Your job is pretty much stable unless you are a under-performer for 2 or 3 years in a row.6% 401k match is a big plus in comparison to other companies.

Cons

The company does not want or foster innovation. It implemented SAP, it is working well, but it did not add any value to Operation/Support teams; on the contrary, it added more non-added value steps on simple tasks such as buying replacement parts. Being a patchwork of independent steel mills that were acquired over time (Florida Steel, CoSteel, TAMCO, Chaparral Steel, North Star), the North American branch of Gerdau lacks identity.

Pros

Gerdau cares about it's employees, and the communities that their operations are in. Pay is very good with the variable incentive, benefits are competitive, and the people are friendly.

Cons

Constant change can be a challenge if you're not someone who can adapt to new situations. Gerdau is constantly evolving and striving to be better so if this isn't you, then look somewhere else.
