Pros

GMF is a leading institution for U.S. foreign policy with a historically European slant. It's a generally positive work environment, with lots of opportunity for young foreign policy analysts to attend discussions, help organize events and to travel to international conferences. There is a fairly comfortable work-life balance and the compensation is mostly on par or slightly better than similar NGOs or think-tanks. Most staff are very positive and friendly and the rather young staff demographic makes it a fun place to work.

Cons

There has been quite a bit of turnover at GMF in recent years and a recent change in leadership, though the new President is a very respected Europeanist and was beloved as a former leader. The small size of the place also means some unequal and unpredictable changes in roles and responsibilities and some younger staff may feel 'stuck' in their position. Others may find the opportunity to move up, but it's entirely uncertain. Teams tend to inherit their work culture from their managers, so there are some large gaps in the temperament, pace and mood of different programs. That can be either an advantage or disadvantage depending on which team you are on. Recent turnover and staff changes have also caused GMFs general reputation to slide a bit among its peers.
