Pros

Friendly cohorts/peers and cool network of amazing people after you head out, good company events (when there isn't covid) and opportunities to travel, sign-on benefits are really nice.

Cons

Leadership - from top to bottom. Actually listen to your ERG groups, they are the best part and the backbone of your company. Listen to your good managers and stop keeping the rotten ones.

Pros

• Life changing pay + benefits + stipends • Remote first organization, home office setup • Extremely talented ICs - some of the smartest people I've worked with • Passionate legacy employees • World class products & experiences • Opportunity to learn and grow • MSFT acquisition added much more resources

Cons

GitHub is no longer the friendly, employee first driven company it had built it's reputation on. Since the MSFT acquisition, the environment has changed drastically, leaving behind very few remnants of once a thriving culture. • Cliquey. Very personality driven culture; character is less important. • Not a lot of empathy. Demanding hours & workloads increase by the day. • Constant change without much transparency. Lots of re-orgs. • Review process is broken with no ability to respond to critique. • Fail-fast, fail-small mentality, with little margin for error • Does not value diversity! • GitHub actively has an open ICE contract. • Women and POC have an incredibly high turn over rate and are paid significantly less than their white colleagues. • There is only 9% diversity in leadership. • ERGs do a majority of the labor to push diverse agendas and equity.

Pros

-Good benefits -Unlimited PTO -Max out HSA - work life balance

Cons

Ever since the CEO stepped down, the company feels to me like its heading south. Many of the teams are floating on their own without managers/directors or any form of leadership. They put in product managers who have ZERO vision to be in charge of managing important features of Github. From being fairly transparent, they have started a "hush-hush" culture where you don't know where and how decisions are being made. This is not at all a good time to join GitHub. They hire and they fire very quickly if you don't fit into their culture of all-talk and get no real work done. Politics is heavily rewarded. Honesty and speaking your mind is frowned upon.
