An internal mess full of bullies

Pros

Closed last week of year

Cons

Not enough headcount - people forced out in suspicious ways at NJ locations, others retire and quit, no one hired to fill these positions, those remaining expected to absorb the workload. People in both NY and NJ offices overworked, miserable, little room for growth and rare promoting from within, no raises or bonuses unless you're "important" (perfumers, upper mgmt, sales) everyone else expected to work like dogs to pad the important people's bank accounts. Clunky systems that slow down work, terrible customer service to clients, clients complain that business is more difficult with Givaudan compared to competitors. NY office very cliquey, old ladies that behave like mean girls, higher ups allowed to bully others and get promotions for it, different rules for different teams, certain teams given perks that Others are not and upper mgmt allows. Surprising that this company isn't sued more often for all the unethical and illegal practices they allow to occur openly.

Pros

Working with the leading company and in a dynamic industry on the manufacturing side. Able to work on projects from small clients to celebrities. When smelling and creating everyone is happy. Summer Fridays were great and the occasional office breakfasts.

Cons

This is specifically for the NYC office. The anxious competitive atmosphere stifles the creativity. The HR department in the NYC office is a joke, and only worried about managers. If your not at a certain level you are not considered a "core employee" and therefore will not receive an evaluation so you really don't know how your doing until your are called into HR. Internal training is non-existent. Promotions are few and far between based on their need and not your work. Tyrannical management is allowed to scare everyone with threatening words because the fragrance manufacturing industry overall is extremely competitive.

Not so good in the past few years.

Pros

Givaudan is in the right business and is often able to make money in spite of themselves and seem to remain stable regardless of what the economy is doing.

Cons

Middle to upper management has been a revolving door especially on North America. Upper management in Switzerland seems to want all the benefits of the US economy without investing their time in learning how to work with Americans.
