Pros

The flavor industry is stable/growing. Givaudan is very good a creating new flavors. Good benefits and pay. There are opportunities to grow/expand career. It's a global company.

Cons

Givaudan is mostly focused on flavor creation. The difference between the creation side and the production side is night and day. Creation side, people are excited about what they do, and the company likes to showcase - there's clear passion and excitement. On the production side, things are disorganized, neglected and there's an obvious lack of excitement/passion. People just look forward to their next paycheck. The company does not invest in production and most of the needs are neglected. The leadership organization is constantly changing (longest running site director was 3 years...), and as a result, no clear direction exists (constantly changing). The culture is very much silo-ed, and not very much team work. Opposing viewpoints are strongly discouraged (people don't really get a chance to voice their concerns/opinions). Work/life balance is pretty poor (on the production side).

Pros

Benefits such as Healthcare and 401k are very attractive and competitive compared to others. Salary is also competitive.

Cons

This place is considered a Toxic Workplace Environment. There is no room for growth and the management is poor. There is cronyism/favoritism in the Lab (through promotions) and the amount of workload brings some employees to be burnt out, causing a very bad work-life balance. Morale is very low due to many customer complaints, gossiping and samples being late (or last minute analysis). There is a high turnover rate in the last 2 years. The employee performance is not recognized by merit, but by the numbers.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are dissatisfied to hear about your experience in the Quality Control lab in East Hanover, NJ. We take all reviews very seriously and will ensure that your comments are passed to the appropriate teams. At Givaudan, we promote people on the basis of their performance, qualifications and abilities needed for the role. Managers must regularly participate in training to further develop and hone their skills, expertise and leadership. We also encourage everyone to share feedback regularly with their line management and/or HR representative. It is part of Givaudan’s vision to ensure the ongoing company success by preserving our employee mental, physical and financial health. We have introduced a confidential global Employee Assistance Programme to support all our colleagues when they need it. When hiring, we always look at internal candidates, promoting from within whenever possible. We wish you best of success in your new job.

Pros

Some managers are great and are mentor-like. They have internal programs to build presentation, communication, and professional relationship skills. There is a gym on site free to use (which will hopefully open back up after covid gets better). Although it takes a long time they do have growth opportunities.

Cons

Old fashioned mindset of management: upper management can do as they please and everyone else, especially lower level workers, should do as told and not challenge or ask questions. Growth takes a long time or they simply promote people to prevent them from leaving (high turnover rate in the last few years). Upper management claims to care about employees opinion when in reality they don't: they make decisions then ask how everyone feels after it's done and get defensive and upset when people aren't necessarily happy about it. They refuse to acknowledge or see the problem which has caused high turnover rate. They think that just because they are back to a full headcount everyone is happy, this isn't the case. In fact, the atmosphere is so negative and attitudes so poor it affects those who do enjoy the work and have good managers. Management is pushing for return to normal before things improve with covid and don't care about special circumstances (i.e. high risk people or family members that live with employees) everyone must come in. I get this for those that absolutely cannot work from home, but if you can and have been working from home its an unnecessary risk. Just because some people prefer to work at the office, doesn't mean that works for everyone. There is no flexibility with working from home or to provide a some kind of work life balance. For some managers if you aren't at a senior level they don't give you any opportunities to prove you can do the work. This makes it harder for people to get promoted, unless a few people leave within a few months then they'll promote people who don't deserve it just to keep them. Other option is you have to wait for someone at a senior level to leave and apply for their job to get it.
