Pros

- Many smart people at GF - Some good middle managers help make working at GF bearable - There are opportunities to learn a lot - Dynamic industry

Cons

- Senior management team is very shortsighted, making short term decisions that will have a negative long term impact - Outsourcing all the support staff is the latest big thing - Senior management is good at talking, but their actions run contrary to their words - Despite some HR platitudes, there is no real effort to take care of the employees - Very poor work/life balance - Employees are not valued or treated well - Constant direction changes pushed down from top - Difficult to accomplish critical tasks when you have little to no support/backing from senior management - Much needed maintenance is put off in favor of not bringing down the production line, thus increasing risk of unanticipated failures/outages

Pros

No oversight. Mass incompetence is tolerated

Cons

Mass incompetence an no incentive to perform. Most give the bare minimum and skate by without anyone caring, while others who go above and beyond are given superficial "recognition" with no appropriate compensation. Fake it until you make it culture. Management is concerned with extraneous and auxiliary aspects of the job while paying no attention to the severly lacking core fundamentals.

Pros

My manager was good, but he seemed rare compared to others.

Cons

Things move slow because people are afraid to make changes, many levels of hierarchy, stressful environment. Upper management talks a lot about pioneering new semiconductor technology, but seems unlikely.
