Pros

The only thing this place has to offer is working on the latest manufacturing equipment, when you get the chance to actually work that is.

Cons

Management - None of the 3 managers I had in 3 years were technical managers. Not one had a clue what the equipment was doing or how the equipment fit into the manufacturing of microchips. Compensation - There are a couple issues here. First, they are paying people with 1-3 years experience the same as they are paying 15-20 year veterans. This is bad because the veterans feel under paid for their skill and the newer technicians are stuck here because other companies do not hire people with thier experience at the wage they are making. Second, the bonuses were not what they promised when I took the position, they were paid out late, and were very small. HR - Everything you read on glassdoor about the human resource department is absolutely true. I honestly can not add anything because it has all been said here. Horrible group of people. Location - Malta/Saratoga Springs has nothing to offer. The people who own and rent property in the area have taken advantage of GF employees by raising rental prices to phenomenal prices......everything is expensive including the "suppossed" nice cafe at GF. During the winter you can look forward to subzero temperatures for several months, extreme amounts of snow, power outages, and snow plows. During the summer the area fills up with tourists coming to the race track, this is when businesses hike thier prices even higher. It becomes over crowded. Besides the people really aren't all that friendly in the area anyway, if you weren't born and raised there, they want you to spend your money and leave, no one has any interest is getting to know you. I lost interest in living there after the first year and just had to wait out my relocation contract and finding another job.

A Monarchy Cannot Innovate

Pros

The medical and dental benefit plans are great. It is a good company for someone who wants to work for a government agency. Globalfoundries is a subsidiary of the UAE government. You should understand that before you join.

Cons

Globalfoundries lost more talented engineers and managers than most companies ever had. It drew them in by selling them on the idea of a technology company. After people join, they realize the company is part of the UAE government. If you join expecting accountability to profit targets and product launch dates, you will be disappointed. It is run by politics, not by business metrics.
