Pros

- Pay/Benefits (even relative to recent changes in medical coverage laws). - Industry/Technology is cutting edge. (14nm and beyond). - Focus on employees and teamwork. - Potential- strong, committed shareholders. - Change Management- many challenging changes in operations, organization structure, and business processes. As expected for a new company/green FAB were overcome over the last 4 yrs in Malta, NY (FAB-8).

Cons

- HR Policy and Management alignment to consistently enforce- significant changes and improvements over the last few years; however, the leadership and HR team still have a ways to go. - Discipline and Execution with respect to engineering processes and manufacturing. - Alignment between cross-functional departments. (Process Control, Engineering Modules, Process Integration, Characterization). - Training and Operating Procedures not fully established. - Opportunity for technical/professional career growth (GlobalU?, certifications?, off-site Vendor training)

Pros

My experience at Global taught me innumerable life lessons. I feel that I can withstand any level of management incompetence in any organization, and I am numb to a lack of recognition for my work. Since I went back to academia afterwards, this experience really is serving me quite well. Leaving GF Malta remains one of the greatest memories of my entire life, and the glow still hasn't worn off. I did network quite a bit there, and still have a stack of about 200 business cards. So, if my new venture fails, I feel like it should be relatively easy to get back into slinging wafers.

Cons

It was difficult for me transition back into intellectual work after leaving the company, since my "Engineering" position there was glorified babysitting. Global also made me unreasonably cynical about any type of corporate entity.

Pros

Company is trying to change the old IBM ways of rigid and unbending. Trying consolidate to move out the older engineers and low performers who are just here for the paycheck. Bringing in younger generation of engineers and trying to make the work environment friendlier.

Cons

Competition from existing semiconductor manufactures.
