Pros

Good talents from industry leading companies

Cons

Big question on how managers survive with poor technical knowledge and no strategy/directions. HR also seems have no clear policies.

Pros

Competitive salary, decent benefits. Peers really work hard. Free coffee.

Cons

Where to start...dysfunction is rampant in pretty much every level of management. HR is incompetent and not there for the employees. If you dare to file an ethics complaint know that it isn't anonymous.... You will become a target and the illegal and/or immoral activities will be ignored. And you will be outed to the person or persons you filed against. You are expected to work when you take sick days and vacation. You are expected to be on conference calls during your off hours into late evenings and weekends. If you disagree with how things are run, and you would have to be blind to not see the utter chaos, you will be labeled a complainer. And if you have always been a strong performer at other mature companies get ready to get the worst review ever. Unless,of course, you keep your mouth shut and don't ever point out the idiocy. There is no way this company will ever have major market share. They have no clue how to run a truly world class company. And acquiring IBM will do no good. I wonder how long it will take to destroy any of the good IBM brings....probably not long. Absolute worst experience I have ever had in my 25+ years in the workforce. Glad I will soon break out of the asylum!!

Pros

Tons of work to get done so fairly easy to make a name for yourself if you are willing to tackle projects Extremely diverse workforce, culturally and professionally Access to some of the newest cutting-edge technology

Cons

The word I would use to describe my time at Globalfoundries is "chaotic". I joined fresh out of college and even with my little experience was able to tell that things were not running nearly as smoothly as they could. They struggled to establish a work culture that they wanted to stick to, so there were lots of non-cohesive attitudes. There were very aggressive targets set for the business, and employees worked extremely hard (overtime, holidays, etc) to meet these goals, but this resulted only in further pushing from management and unfortunately not a lot of recognition. Many of the employees are burnt out, especially the few really good ones that eventually wind up leaving or transferring departments in hopes of better compensation or promotion. I think they have been making progress over the past few years, but it has been slow and too many mistakes. During my time there (left in 2014) I would rate management as poor overall. Salary was alright, but there was not a good or clear method for self-progression and promotions or salary bumps. Benefits package was pretty good, and time off was decent... however with the extreme pressure to work constantly it felt frowned upon to take a day off. I almost always expected calls when I was off work. Hopefully they have streamlined some of their processes by now.
