Pros

Reputation was very good, before the whole industry blew up. Is still recognised as among best in field, and times will turn again. Leadership is really excellent, clear sense of direction and give a sense of confidence. Generally equitable treatment of employees, good work progression / career advancement

Cons

Opacity of salary structure and lack of comparison with others. If you do not have much experience you will not be paid your fair market value as inexperience is something you pay a price for (although I believe that is the same at most large companies). Lack of work life balance can be an issue however not if you manage it well. Middle management can be very slow and opaque in communicating big changes but again that is the same at most companies of a certain size and to an extent is the function of middle management.

Pros

Salary solid, very prestigious company. Smart staff, fairly egalitarian structure. No huge egos allowed. Layoffs are kept to a minimum as of now compared to other top tier banking firms. Your individual team tends to be knowledgeable and helpful toward each other.

Cons

Still fairly hierarchical work structure. longer hours. Higher than average pressure to stay within company line, not to push too hard outside the company box. Sometimes you can feel guity for say leaving early even if you have your personal work done. Like other financial companies, technology can often be treated as second class citizens compared to the main "players" on the front lines - investing banking, trading.

Pros

Sr. Mgmt makes a lot of effort of retaining staff in the firm. Good benefits

Cons

The firm lacks uniformity. IT staff gets a second class citizen treatment and causes a lot of IT folks to get demotivated. IT bonuses are miniscule compared to the business side.
