      Losing what used to make it special... - Culture is becoming more like Microsoft, Oracle, etc. by the month - Internal focus has shifted away from customer & innovation focused to efficiency & cost leading to layoffs, fear and an "everyone for themselves" reality - Total compensation is shrinking for many - Questions on whether Google has what it takes to maintain its leadership position or if it will lose out to AI competitors

      * potentially huge impact from your work, global scale * good overall comp (at least used to be, I don't know about new hires) * great internal productivity tools for engineers to work on code and collaborate on design & planning

      * decreasing morale, from layoffs & scandals * growing distrust of top management * growing lack of accountability & transparency of top management * growing lack of focus of the company * growing lack of clear ethics & moral sense, e.g. in AI, geo-politics, working with military

      The usual perks like - Gym, Food, Micro kitchen (Though last year it was slashed in the name of cost cutting]

      Cons

      Upper management has lost its vision. Your career path depends on the project you are in. Lots of bureaucracy from Directors and senior management who have inflated egos. If your project is not the shine one expect garbage work that does not align with your experience. Austin is mostly back office type work. No research or projects related to AI. So be careful if you want to move to Austin location.
