      Pros

      Google has incredible resources for learning high-tech and managing teams. There is outstanding onboarding, process documentation, and shadowing for new joiners. Google also has a strong work-life balance, anchoring meetings to midday to respect national timezones. The community of individuals is top-notch- amazingly smart, driven, and courteous colleagues.

      Cons

      Given the scale of the operation, it's very hard to create change. The best opportunities and problems are often "gifted" down from managers to select individuals who are on fast promotion trajectories. Challenges are often framed so positively, it can feel impossible to ask the "real question," criticize efforts, or swim upstream. I saw individuals sent a strong message with their ratings for challenging the status quo. At times, this can feel toxic and insurmountable. The key here is aligning to strong managers who are transparent and supportive so you can get tapped for meaningful work, find a safe space for challenging assumptions, and get buy-in for your ideas.
