Awesome startup culture and great place to work; passionate people and amazing mission
Pros
Graduation Alliance has become one of the best companies to work for in Utah. We seem to have a lot of passionate and smart people that really care about their job and are working hard for a common goal to help underserved kids. People are very friendly which is fostered by the open floor plan and a casual dress policy. We moved to a new office this year and it is big and beautiful with great views of the mountains, and there are very few walls and cubicles. We are growing quickly, with lots of new faces but they often promote from within, and people have moved from department to department, some multiple times. The company has a true startup culture and although management spends a lot of time of raising cash for growth they have done a great job of building a strong team and products and services (I like the idea of the new company they just acquired). Some of things I like the most: • The mission to help students who are underserved is the focus of the company and employees • Passionate people that like their work • Compensation is fair, especially compared to other Utah companies • There is a good work/life balance with good PTO and time off for holidays • Benefits get better every year, e.g. they just added a 401(k) program, with a small match, which they say will keep improving as we grow • Flexible work schedule • A fun, laid back environment, managers don't get on your case for having a bit of fun or chatting with a coworker • There’s an employee led group that runs things like company social events, which are usually lots of fun • They pay for a gym membership, provide lots of free food (fruit and stuff) and the people are very healthy • Opportunities for professional growth, learning new skills, moving up in the ranks • Great leadership team and competent mid level managers • I like my boss and management in general wants you to succeed • Everyone is open to trying new ideas and innovating Overall, I love coming into work every day and really enjoy everything about my job and my manager. I would recommend it to anybody who want a job with true meaning.
Cons
As with any startup there are issues with growing very rapidly. Management does a great job of minimizing these pains, but from time to time they do appear. Recently the company acquired a new company and there’s been a lot of organization change. I like my new boss but we need to offer more training to help the managers in their new roles.
